Our recent adventure aboard the Azamara Pursuit through the breathtaking Mediterranean falls squarely into that second category. What began as a simple getaway quickly became one of the most meaningful travel experiences we’ve ever had.

What makes a Mediterranean voyage unique is how effortlessly it blends nature, history, and everyday beauty. One moment you’re stepping into a centuries-old village, and the next you’re soaking up golden sunlight on the open sea...and as you will see, it's even better on a small ship!

Our Mediterranean Journey Aboard Azamara Pursuit

Even though the Azamara Pursuit is very much a luxury ship, the atmosphere onboard is warm, relaxed, and refreshingly unpretentious. We tend to dress sporty (Lulu) rather than formal, and we’re both tattooed - yet we felt welcomed, comfortable, and completely at home from day one.

With fewer than 708 guests, the ship never felt crowded. Instead, it felt personal. Friendly faces, genuine connections, easy conversations - the kind of environment where bumping into the same people over and over becomes part of the joy.

Life Onboard: Comfort, Warmth, and a Sense of Community

Small-Ship Cruising That Feels Personal

One of the greatest perks of small-ship travel is how human everything feels. You’re not just another person in a sea of thousands - the crew gets to know you, and you get to know them.

Within no time, many of the staff knew our names, our preferences, and our daily habits. That level of care made the entire trip feel more intimate and special.

The Living Room: A Mediterranean Panorama in Motion

One space onboard absolutely captured our hearts: The Living Room.

This lounge features stunning floor-to-ceiling angled panes of glass, creating an uninterrupted panoramic view stretching across the entire front of the ship. It’s as if the Mediterranean is placed right in your lap — shifting colors, rolling waves, and endless blue all around you.

We spent hours here:

• sipping cocktails
• reading
• listening to soft live music
• or simply relaxing as the horizon slowly changed

The warmth of the natural light, paired with the cozy, inviting décor, made this space feel like a calm little sanctuary at sea. I love different chairs and there are so many syles to choose from here!

Pool Deck Bliss Under the Mediterranean Sun

The pool deck was another favorite spot. Even with a full sailing, we never had trouble finding a lounger. The space felt serene, uncrowded, and perfect for long afternoons under the soft Mediterranean sun.

Between the sparkling pool and the two bubbling hot tubs, relaxing outside became one of our happiest daily rituals. The vibes were relaxed and the air around us filled with conversation and laughter...it was the place to be.

Dining Through the Mediterranean: A Culinary Delight

Food was a highlight every single day. Whether we were sitting down for dinner at Discoveries or grabbing something from the buffet, the meals were consistently excellent.

Themed nights brought a wonderful variety, each offering a taste of regional flavors and inviting us to slow down and genuinely enjoy the culinary journey.

tful service - felt elevated, relaxed, and perfectly suited for Mediterranean travel.

White Night: Mediterranean Magic Under the Stars

If there’s one evening we’ll be talking about for years, it’s White Night.

The crew transformed the entire pool deck into a stunning open-air dining venue draped in elegant white:

• tables set under the sky
• glowing lights strung overhead
• a raised stage for live entertainment
• crisp white décor everywhere

And the best part?

Santorini stood proudly in the background, its whitewashed buildings glowing gold on the cliffs. Dining outdoors, surrounded by soft lights, music, laughter, and that iconic view… it felt straight out of a Mediterranean fairytale.

Santorini: The Mediterranean Icon That Took Our Breath Away

Our day in Santorini was pure magic. We tendered ashore and climbed all 588 steps to the top — and yes, we walked all 588 back down again! The views, the winding streets, the shops, the cliffside charm… it truly felt like stepping into a postcard.

But the moment that really stayed with us came when we returned to the port.

The lines for the three larger ships in port were stretched endlessly. We began walking toward what we assumed was our own place in the queue…

Only to discover that Azamara’s tender area was completely empty.

No line. No waiting. No chaos.

Just cold towels, refreshing drinks, and smiling faces ready to welcome us back onboard. Within minutes, we were seated comfortably on the tender, already on our way back.

That is the magic of small-ship cruising.

Docking Close to the Heart of the Mediterranean

Another huge perk of sailing with Azamara is how often the ship can dock close to the center of each port city. Instead of dealing with long transfers, buses, or shuttles, we simply walked off the ship - no fuss, no delays - and stepped right into the action.

Exploring became effortless.
Every port felt accessible.
Every moment felt maximized.
